Tommy Hagey

Dear Friends –

We are pleased to share the exciting news that Tommy Hagey, the Executive Director of Camp Marymount, will be taking on a new position focused on community engagement and advancement. Tommy will transition to his new role following the end of Camp this summer, and we have begun a search for a new Executive Director to fill his current position.

This new role will be critical to ensuring Camp Marymount is a constant in the life of children and families for generations to come. For 86 years, thousands of boys and girls have been blessed with the opportunity to spend their summers at Camp Marymount, an oasis of adventure, friendship and joy tucked away on 350 acres in Fairview, Tennessee. Owned and operated by the Diocese of Nashville, Camp Marymount has long been a second home to families both near and far, its traditions passed down through the years.

Camp’s values are especially important today, when fresh air, friendship and freedom from technology seem increasingly hard to come by. As such, the Diocese and the Board of Directors of Camp Marymount have made it a priority that in the face of so much change in our world, the singular experience of attending Camp Marymount is sustained and offered to even more children. We are thankful Tommy has accepted our offer to lead this effort.

Those who know Tommy understand there is no greater ambassador for Camp. In the 36 years he has been associated with Camp, Tommy has been camper, volunteer, counselor, head of Senior Camp, Head Counselor, and alumni board member. He assumed the role of Executive Director in 1997 and has expertly guided the development of Camp while ensuring it stayed true to its tradition and roots.

Under Tommy’s leadership, Camp launched its first-ever capital campaign, raising more than $4 million, established the MOSS Golf Tournament to fund scholarships and initiated Marymount in May, Camp’s annual gala. Tommy has led major upgrades to Camp’s facilities, roads and equipment, always with an eye toward long-term sustainability. Working closely with a dedicated team, he oversaw the construction of a new dining hall, administrative offices, St. George’s Chapel, winterized housing for more than 70 people, and seven summer cabins. Tommy also  partnered with the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Association (TWRA) to restock and maintain the lake, giving campers the exciting opportunity to catch trophy-sized fish.

Notably, Tommy skillfully managed the successful opening of Camp during the pandemic when many other summer programs remained shuttered. For that and for his many other accomplishments as Executive Director, we will always be grateful to Tommy.

Tommy and his wife, Margaret, met at Camp and their eight children have grown up there, becoming campers when they were old enough and then members of staff and counselors. Margaret will remain in her position as Summer Camp Director and, with Tommy, will onboard the newly hired Executive Director to ensure a seamless transition that preserves and builds upon the treasured traditions of Camp.

Please join us in thanking Tommy for his years of service as Executive Director and congratulating him on his new position. This is an important moment for the future of Camp Marymount, and we look forward to updating you on the progress of our growth initiative and the search for a new Executive Director.

Sincerely,

Tina Sevier McRae

President, Board of Trustees of Camp Marymount
