Camp Marymount MARGARET HAGEY

Margaret believes the most important part of her job is helping both the staff and campers realize that they are a member of the Marymount family. And for Margaret, Marymount is deeply connected with family. Her mother was one of Marymount’s first campers, and all of her eight children have spent their summers as Marymount campers.

Margaret first came to Marymount in 1976 when she was 7 years old as a camper in Cabin 1.  As a rising Senior, she spent her first of 5 summers as a counselor for the Girls’ Session.  She has played an integral role at camp every summer since. Margaret has served in a variety of positions at camp—Cabin Counselor (1985-1989), Head Counselor (1990-1999), Cook, Support Programming Staff, Administrative Assistant (2000-2017) Suntrails Team Building Coordinator (2006-present) and Summer Program Director since 2018.Today, Margaret oversees summer programming at Camp, and during the off-season, works in Marymount’s Suntrails Program—a low ropes course designed to facilitate communication skills among groups.

Margaret received her BA in elementary education from St. Louis University and has spent most of her life dedicated to campers at Marymount.  In the “off season”, Margaret works at Saint Henry School as a Kindergarten aide, with Marymount always close to her heart.   “I love seeing the smiles, hearing the laughter, smelling the campfires, tasting the spring water and watching the campers grow in their love for each other as well as the Marymount life.  It is so important for our children to slow down, rid themselves of screens and learn how to live together…these are experiences that are best developed in a summer camp setting, and I am grateful to continue this tradition.
