Camp Marymount Our History MARYMOUNT THROUGH THE YEARS IN THE BEGINNING Camp Marymount’s roots reach back to 1939 when it was named Camp Happy Hollow in Joelton, TN—a small Catholic residential camp owned by the Diocese of Nashville. In the fall of 1945, the late Msgr. George Rohling purchased an 147 acre fishing camp in Fairview TN—the perfect location to expand the Diocese’s mission. They named this new property Camp Marymount— in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary. A SMALL LODGE, INFIRMARY, AND NINE CABINS That was Marymount when we welcomed our first campers. Summer upon summer since, hundreds of young campers descend upon this rolling, wooded expanse of pristine Middle Tennessee soil to experience and appreciate God’s natural gifts. And thousands have returned home with shared memories that shaped their lives. Of toothpaste-covered cabins. Of songs at dawn and songs at dusk. Of friendships and firelight. Of crosses and canoes. A LONG HISTORY OF HAPPY CAMPERS! CAMP MARYMOUNT TODAY. More than 80 years later, Camp Marymount welcomes more than 700 boys and girls of all faiths every summer. Our dedicated team of 60+ counselors and support staff, many of them former campers, encourage the development of physically strong and spiritually grounded young people—inspired by the experience only camp can provide.
